<description>As far as I know the Rayward-Shepard house is still there. I called the owners about a year ago to see if I could get in to take pictures and they said no. However it was featured on a house tour a year ago.
As for the historical society. I think that it&#039;s just that, a historical society and not a commission like they have in Mass. Case in point, the Alice Ball House by Philip Johnson. There has been a running battle for about a year over it&#039;s future between the historical society, the new owners, planning and zoning and the neighbors.
Over all however. New Canaan, as a whole, seems to be waking up to what is there and preservation seems to be coming more into vogue.
You have houses like John Black Lee&#039;s DeSilver House which has, according to neighbors, been totally restored by it&#039;s new owners. Nis Lee House 2 has had an arguably historically sensative addtion built onto it and Toshiko Mori is doing an addition, almost complete, of Marcel Breuer&#039;s second NC House.
I think also that with economics being what they are that the era of the McMansion may be coming to a close. This summer &quot; For Sale&quot; signs sprouted up in greater numbers than in previous years. We&#039;ll have to see.
I have moved most of my modern comments to another site. embracemodern.com also there you&#039;ll find other area bloggers that are tracking all of this.

Thanks for the comment, Skip</description>

<description>Found your blog while searching for the Rayward-Shepherd house in New Canaan by Frank Lloyd Wright. Is it still there? Visiting NC I met an architect who had been asked to tear down a FLW house in NC and replace it, presumably, with a Mcmansion. He refused to do it, so the owner found another architect who was willing. How sad, I thought.

This followed a visit to New Canaan Country School for a 50th reunion, and learning that an exquisite 18th-century house across the street from the school on Ponus Ridge was slated to be torn down and replaced.

I swear this wouldn&#039;t happen in Massachusetts, where I live now. Does the NC Historical Society have no clout? O tempora, o mores!

		<description>Thanks Bill.

By the way, love your book. I carry it with me most days and have used it to teach young people about modern architecture. At least show them that there are different ways to approach the living space.

		<description>Skip:

I like you idea about a plaza in front of the Gores Pavilion. Not in the budget for the renovations right now, but interesting nonthe less. Oddly, the original pool was not centered on the building. But it seems like it should have been, and seems like the plaza should be.
